What dark side?!

I’ve been watching episodes of Charmed on Netflix lately. Did that make you laugh? There’s something about television from the late 90′s and early 2000′s that speaks to my “Generation Y” heart. I’ve found myself drawn to the character (or the idea of the character) Cole. Need a little background? Cole is half human, half demon. He is drawn away from the side of evil by his love for one of the main characters, Phoebe. Continue reading

Wake Up. Together.

Sitting on a meditation cushion and garbage bag, I can feel the damp ground underneath my shins. The incline of the hill offering both ease and challenges; the dip of the pelvis supporting a lifted spine while the garbage bag and slant create ‘holding’ to prevent sliding.

Eyes gazing softly on the wet grass and mud receiving flashes of feet of passersby. The sounds of St. James Park, the home of Occupy Toronto, float in and out. Continue reading

I care about you.

Greed and generosity have been the topics in the forefront of my mind over the past few days as my peers and I participate in and discuss Occupy Toronto and the Occupy movement around the world. In Patanjali’s Yoga-Sutras, the first of yoga’s Eight Limbs are the yama (often translated as restraints). The yama are the ethical foundation that serve to carry practice off of the mat and cushion out into daily life. Included in these five restraints is the teaching of non-greed. Continue reading
